Day Before Surgery - LEFT FOOT

The day before surgery I met with my surgeon.
1. I paid my co-pay for that visit (with my plan its $25.00)
2. He reviewed the negative risks
3. He reviewed pre-op things for me to do
4. New xrays were taken, even though I had xrays done & sent to him several months earlier. (I was told, legally he could not perform the surgery if he did not take xrays now.)

5. He gave me 4 prescriptions:
  • Cephalexin 500mg capsules (antibiotic)
  • Hydrocodone BT-IBU 7.5-200 tablets (pain reliever and anti-inflammatory)
  • Roxicet 5-325 tablet (pain reliever and can reduce fever)
  • Zofran 8mg tablets (prevents nausea)

6. The following paperwork was given to me to sign to verify that I accept, consent, and understand:
  • Instructions of what not to do before surgery (including eating or drinking ANYTHING 8 hrs before surgery)
  • Instructions on what not to do and do after surgery
  • An overly simplified diagram of the 4 surgeries that would be done on my left foot
  • Alternatives, Adverse Effects, and Complications (including Adverse Effects of toe amputation and/or limb amputation, nerve damage, chronic pain, repeated surgery to correct condition, and more. These papers were verbally reviewed with me by my surgeon before given to me to sign.)

After signing all the papers I asked for photocopies for my records. My request was met with a surprised look, but I was accommodated.

Later.
